Twg charged after assault and kidnapping in Kirrawee

Police have charged two men after they allegedly assaulted and kidnapped a man in Sydney’s south west earlier in the year.

About 10.30pm on Tuesday 16 July 2019, a 30-year-old man drove his car to Belgium Street, Punchbowl, where he met with an associate. After a short conversation, three other men approached the car and pulled the 30-year-old driver into the back seat.

The four alleged offenders then drove the car to the man’s house on Waratah St, Kirrawee, where he was assaulted, and the house was ransacked.

The man managed to escape momentarily, before being caught and assaulted again.

The four men then left the scene soon after and police were notified.

Officers from Sutherland Shire Police Area Command attended and commenced an investigation.

Following extensive inquiries, a 29-year-old man was arrested about 2.30pm on Tuesday 10 September 2019 on Broad Arrow Road, Riverwood, and taken to Kogarah Police Station.

The man was charged with special aggravated kidnapping and was refused bail. He appeared before Sutherland Local Court the following day (Wednesday 11 September 2019), where he was granted conditional bail to reappear before Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday 6 November 2019.
