Two charged over alleged 2020 home invasion and murder – Cherrybrook

Homicide Squad detectives have charged two men over the alleged home invasion and murder of a man in Sydney’s north-west almost three years ago.

Just before 12.30am on Wednesday 29 April 2020, emergency services were called to a home on Tallowwood Avenue, Cherrybrook, following reports two men had forced entry to the home.

Police attended and located the occupants, an 86-year-old man and 83-year-old woman, with serious head injuries.

They were treated at the scene before being taken to Westmead Hospital, where the man, Kalim Saliba, later died.

Officers from Ryde Police Area Command commenced initial inquiries into the incident before detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad took carriage of the investigation under Strike Force McCleery.

A $1 million NSW Government reward was announced in December 2021 for information which leads to the arrest and conviction of any person or persons responsible for Kalim’s death.

Following further extensive inquiries, strike force detectives attended a unit in Castle Hill, where they arrested a 33-year-old man about 9am yesterday (Wednesday 12 April 2023).

About the same time, a 58-year-old was arrested at a correctional facility at Silverwater.

They were both charged with murder, and specially aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence.

The younger man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today, while the older man was also refused bail to appear at Hornsby Local Court later today.
