Two kids injured in mini-bike crash at Wilcannia, NSW

Two children have been taken to hospital after coming off a mini bike when it crashed with a vehicle on the Barrier Highway in the states west today.

About 4.15pm (Thursday 1 August 2019), two boys, aged 6, where riding the mini bike along a dirt track that crosses the Barrier Highway, about 500 meters west of the Wilcannia township.

A motor vehicle was travelling west along the highway and as the mini bike crossed the highway it crashed into the drivers-side door of the car.

The two children fell from the bike onto the road. Both suffered injuries – not life-threatening – and were taken to Wilcannia Multi-Purpose Centre for treatment.

It is expected the pair will be transported by Royal Flying Doctor to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide for further treatment to foot and arm injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was breath tested at the scene with a negative result.

Police can confirm only one of the boys was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
