Two Perth men have been charged with drug supply offences by Australian Federal Police and Western Australia Police Force officers over the seizure of three kilograms of methamphetamine.
Police arrested one of the men, a 37-year-old from Warwick, earlier this month (April 2021) after they allegedly saw him acting suspiciously and collecting a package at Goodwood Boat Ramp, in the suburb of Rivervale.
When officers searched the man’s black backpack, they allegedly found three kilograms of methamphetamine concealed inside.
Police started an investigation to identify the person who delivered the illicit drugs and allegedly identified a Waikiki man, also aged 37, as the courier.
On Saturday 10 April, a search warrant was done at the Waikiki man’s address, where police allegedly found an elaborate cannabis hydroponic system, dried cannabis and drug paraphernalia, including scales.
Both men have been charged over the three kilogram meth seizure with possession of prohibited drugs with intent to sell and supply, contrary to section six of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1981 (WA). The maximum penalty for the offence is life imprisonment.
The Warwick man is expected to face Perth Magistrates Court on 6 May, while the Waikiki man is expected to appear in the same court on 10 May.
AFP Acting Sergeant Chris Lilburne said the AFP and WA Police are working closely to disrupt the illicit drug trade and stop harmful substances from reaching our community.
“Three kilograms of meth could have been distributed to 30,000 people in street level deals, netting a total of up to $3 million.
“We see daily the harm that these drugs bring – not just the physical and health impacts on users, but the negative flow-on effects to the broader community through other crimes, including burglaries, robberies and assaults,” Acting Sergeant Lilburne said.
