Two women and baby located safe and well, NSW

Two women and an infant have been located safe and well after a search and rescue operation in the Hunter overnight.

After 1pm yesterday (Wednesday 12 February 2020), two women – aged 27 and 25 – and an 11-month-old boy attended the Chichester State Forest to inspect a campsite ahead of a planned trip.

Police have been told a short time later, the women’s Nissan Patrol became bogged in wet ground. They attempted to free the vehicle for a number of hours but were unsuccessful.

Around 8.30pm, the 27-year-old called police for assistance.

Officers attached to Port Stephens-Hunter Police District established a command post and launched a search and rescue operation, with assistance from NSW Ambulance officers and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

About 11.10pm, police heard a car horn down a steep, undriveable fire trail and located all three persons safe and well.

The group were escorted out of the forest and taken to Dungog Police Station where they were released into the care of family members.
