GENEVA – The Special Rapporteur in the field of cultural rights, Alexandra Xanthaki, will conduct a country visit to the Republic of Zimbabwe from 28 September to 9 October 2026.
Xanthaki will focus on the right of all people in Zimbabwe to participate in cultural life of their choosing, through all means of expression and on an equal footing. She will assess the right to take part in decision-making processes that impact cultural rights, including policies concerning conservation and sustainable and cultural development. She will also examine measures, spaces and policies to foster cultural diversity and interculturality in the country.
The Special Rapporteur will meet with officials at the central and local levels, and key actors such as civil society organisations and non-profit associations. She will travel to Harare, Bulawayo, Binga and Victoria Falls.
Xanthaki will hold a press conference on Friday 9 October at 11:00 (local time) at the United Nations Office in Zimbabwe, Harare. Access will be limited to journalists.
The Special Rapporteur will present her report to the 64th session of the UN Human Rights Council in March 2027.
