Nillumbik Prize Contemporary Writing 2024

Entries for the 2024 Nillumbik Prize for Contemporary Writing are now open for short stories and memoirs.

Writers are encouraged to unleash their imagination and embark on a literary quest for this prestigious biennial national prize with a total prize pool of $17,500.

The 2024 Prize introduces some exciting changes including the introduction of a theme, ‘Resistance’ for the short story category, and a new partnership with Writers Victoria.

Council’s new partnership with Writers Victoria will expand the reach and audience for the literary award, and provide applicants with access to high quality writing resources. The partnership also ensures a greater profile for the shortlisted entries.

Nillumbik Mayor, Ben Ramcharan said Nillumbik is renowned for its rich literary heritage, and Council is proud to continue its support of contemporary Australian writers through the Nillumbik Prize for Contemporary Writing.

“This distinguished award not only provides a platform for writers to showcase their work but also offers the opportunity to win cash prizes, and recognises the exceptional talent in our Shire and across the country,” Cr Ramcharan said.
