Unlicensed driver charged over dangerous driving in stolen car, NSW

An unlicensed driver has been charged over allegedly refusing a breath test while driving a stolen vehicle on Sydney’s North Shore.

Just before 9pm yesterday (Friday 17 April 2020), officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were conducting patrols of the Lane Cove area, when they saw a Renault sedan allegedly driving dangerously and without its lights on along the Pacific Highway.

Officers stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver, a 19-year-old man, who allegedly provided a false name and refused to undergo a roadside breath test.

He was arrested and taken to Chatswood Police Station, where he was charged with drive conveyance without consent of the owner, drive in dark with no lights, state false name, unlicensed driver, refuse breath test, refuse breath analysis, and not comply with noticed direction re section 7/8/9 COVID-19.

The Double Bay man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Saturday 18 April 2020).

Investigations are continuing.
