Update 1: Arson investigation, Tara and Wieambilla

Specialist arson detectives from the Crime and Intelligence Command have released a COMFIT image of a man they would like to speak to in relation to Operation Victor Ministry, the ongoing investigation into a dozen suspicious fires in the Western Downs earlier this year.

Between January and April, 12 fires were deliberately lit in bushland near Tara and Wieambilla.

More than 4600 hectares of land was destroyed along with 14 homes and a number of vehicles and other structures.

Extensive investigations indicate an early 90s model white Toyota Landcruiser utility was observed near several of the fires.

Detectives have released an image believed to be this vehicle, with a distinctive metal frame visible on the utility’s tray.

Further dedicated investigations have identified a description of a person of interest to the investigation.

A COMFIT has been developed of a man – who is described as in his late 40s, 175cm tall with a proportionate build, fair complexion and grey hair and beard.

Police urge anyone with information regarding the investigation, the identity of this person depicted or information regarding vehicle described, to come forward.
