As part of the consultation, the City asked the community to consider a proposed concept design, which would have involved the removal of two Norfolk pines on the western side of the roundabout.
The consultation received a large amount of publicity and a significant participation response from the community. It sparked a lot of conversation about tree retention, pedestrian and cyclist experiences, Main Roads guidelines, and driver behaviour in Fremantle.
The community has clearly expressed that it does not support the removal of the Norfolk Island pine trees as part of the improvement works, which means the City will not proceed with removing these trees.
The City will continue to work with the community to improve the pedestrian crossing works at Douro Road, without the removal of the Norfolk Island pines.
