Update: Suspicious fire at Ashmore, QLD

Police investigating a suspicious house fire at Ashmore this morning are appealing for anyone who may have since seen a boat stolen from the residence prior to the blaze to come forward.

Around 8.00am police were called to Belah Street following multiple reports of a building on fire.

The 46-year-old sole male occupant of the residence was not home at the time.

Preliminary information indicates that a person has forced entry to the man’s utility before reversing it against the right side of the building and igniting the rear of the vehicle.

The fire then quickly spread to the nearby residence, causing significant damage to its interior and destroying the vehicle.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen a vehicle driving in the area between 7.00am and 8.00am towing a tinnie on a boat trailer with QLD registration BV4987 (pictured).

The boat went missing from the residence around the time of the incident.

Police are also urging anyone who may have been driving in Ashmore between those hours with dashcam vision showing the boat to come forward.

Investigations are continuing.
