The City of Ballarat completed a review of the Immunisation Program in 2018. As a result of this review, the City of Ballarat is no longer providing flu immunisation services.
The City of Ballarat has provided flu immunisation services to local adult residents and businesses for many years to ensure adult flu vaccination has been available across the Ballarat community. Under this program, the City of Ballarat has not provided the flu vaccine to children aged six months to five years. Children aged six months to five years receive the vaccine for free from their GP.
In recent times, there has been an expansion of flu vaccination service providers in Ballarat to a level that the City of Ballarat is now no longer required to provide flu immunisation to residents and commercial businesses. Adult flu vaccination services are now being provided from medical practices, private flu vaccine providers, community health, Indigenous health services, hospitals and pharmacies.

The future focus of the City of Ballarat’s Immunisation program will be to provide a quality, childhood vaccination program to children and students in this municipality, which is in line with local government requirements outlined in the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008.
The Victorian Department of Health is working with the Australian Government and immunisation providers to ensure that those most at-risk are protected from influenza this year.
