CDR to ease pressure on family budgets
Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Financial Services, Stephen Jones, said driving down household bills is a key priority for the Albanese Government and technology can help. The Consumer Data Right can boost competition and deliver consumers more choices to help them manage the family budget. CDR is already delivering gains for consumers in the banking market. Now the government is inviting public comment on draft rules to extend this important consumer power to telecommunications. The CDR allows consumers to reclaim control of the data their service providers hold about them by sharing it with third parties that offer innovative products and services.
Australia’s first Coordinator-General for emergency management announced
One of Australia’s foremost natural disaster professionals, Brendan Moon, has been announced as Australia’s first Coordinator-General for National Emergency Management.
The new role will oversee the operations of the newly created National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to strengthen Australia’s ability to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters.
Emergency Management Minister Murray Watt said Mr Moon’s work as the CEO of the Queensland Reconstruction Authority (QRA) has been nation leading.
Working together with our region to prepare for future disasters
This week, Australia welcomes more than 3,000 delegates from over 40 Asia-Pacific countries to Brisbane for the 2022 Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR). Hosted in partnership with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), the conference will bring together ministerial representatives and delegates from government, civil society, academia, the private sector and local communities.
Extra help welcomed ahead of a wet summer
Additional funding from the NSW and federal governments to help primary producers recover from floods has been welcomed by one of the state’s farmer groups.
The $100 million Critical Producer Grant Program will help those hardest hit by floods to restore production systems and rebuild essential infrastructure to a standard that will better withstand future disasters.
