Boaties and fishing lovers are already familiar with the rough terrain and informal carpark at the much-loved Outrigger Park in Minyama, but Sunshine Coast Council expects these groups will love the proposed upgrade to the community facility.

In conjunction with the Department of Transport and Main Roads, council is proposing to upgrade the site with improved access to the park and water, increased recreational opportunities within the park and to protect the area from erosion.

Division 4 Councillor John Connolly said the wide variety of recreational and commercial fishing and boating groups along with community organisations that regularly used this facility would welcome the proposed upgrades.

“The proposed design for this wonderful park and community asset will not only feature improved amenity and practicality of the site, but will also ensure improved user safety,” Cr Connolly said.

“A new two-lane boat ramp and floating walkway will allow better access to the water for the area’s boating and fishing enthusiasts, and there will also be new park furniture and a picnic shelter for those who wish to stay ashore.

“Council’s proposal also includes a formalised carpark for approximately 35 car trailer units and 15 standard carparks; an improvement on the 10 current trailer carparks.

“And I’m pleased the design aims to protect existing vegetation as well as create new landscaped garden areas, meaning there will be no net loss of vegetation on site as a result of the project.

“To help contribute to our vision for a healthy, smart and creative region, council looks forward to community input on this exciting project.”

Starting today (November 25) through Friday, December 20, 2019 council is seeking community feedback on its proposed extensive upgrade to this parcel of state land, which includes a proposed redesignation of the car park area from open space park and recreation area to road reserve.
