Upgrades to Thomastown war memorial underway

The redevelopment of the war memorial site on High Street, Thomastown is underway, thanks to a partnership between the City of Whittlesea and the Victorian Government.

The concrete slab and walking paths for the new public space, opposite Thomastown Primary School, are currently being laid, and the new shelter is almost complete.

Council will shortly install seats and paving, and plant fresh greenery to brighten up the area. The ceremonial spire and ‘Poppy Bowl’ will be the last features to be installed.

The improvements to the war memorial site represent the final stage of Council’s streetscape upgrades at Thomastown Shopping Centre. Pedestrian crossings, new paving, seats, bike racks and bins, have already been installed along the popular shopping precinct to encourage residents to shop locally and socialise outdoors.
