Two men have been charged after a vehicle was allegedly driven at police during an operation on Sydney’s North Shore yesterday.
About 4.20pm (Monday 12 April 2021), officers from North Shore Police Area Command were conducting a drug operation at Neutral Bay when they attempted to arrest a 24-year-old man in a carpark on Grosvenor Lane.
As the detective moved in to make the arrest, a vehicle, being driven by a 25-year-old man, allegedly drove his vehicle at the officer.
The car hit the detective before he discharged his firearm; a number of bullets hit the car and it crashed into a bollard and stopped.
The driver of the car, and the 24-year-old man were arrested and taken to Chatswood Police Station where the driver was charged with use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, and drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous.
The younger man was charged with possess commercial quantity of unlawful import: border controlled drug, and deal with identity information to commit indictable offence.
Both men were refused bail and are due to appear before Manly Local Court today (Tuesday 13 April 2021).
The detective suffered minor injuries to his legs, elbows and wrists, but did not require medical treatment.
