Vehicle Seized After P Plater Caught Travelling At 160kmh

A 19-year-old P Plater has had their vehicle seized after being caught travelling at 160km/h on the Southern Outlet near Kingston last night.

About 9:40pm on Friday, 3 October 2025, officers from Southern Road Police detected a 19-year-old man from Margate travelling at 160 km/h on the Southern Outlet, heading towards Kingston. The vehicle was recorded at this speed shortly after passing the Lea junction.

The driver, who holds a Provisional P2 licence, also returned a positive test for an illicit drug.

As a result, the vehicle was clamped for 28 days. The driver is expected to face disqualification from driving and a fine of at least $1,178 when he appears in court.

This incident highlights the serious risks posed by speeding and drug-impaired driving, particularly among inexperienced drivers. Tasmania Police remain committed to reducing fatal and serious crashes by enforcing road safety laws and promoting responsible driving behaviour.
