Victoria is now nannying nannies

SYDNEY – The Australian Taxpayers’ Alliance today reprimanded the Victorian government for its increased restrictions on parents trying to find child care. The new stage 4 rules stop parents from creating new childcare arrangements with family members and tells at-risk populations to stay home.

“The government should allow individuals to decide for themselves how much risk they are willing to take on,” said ATA Policy Director, Emilie Dye. “If an elderly person is willing to risk their own life to watch their grandchildren, who are we to tell them they cannot.”

“Currently, the government is taking away childcare options from parents, and then subsidising their approved methods of childcare. Parents, not the government, know what is best for their family.”

“Only workers carrying a ‘Permitted Worker Permit’ may send their kids to childcare. But the government is paying childcare workers, even if they aren’t watching any children. This is a waste of taxpayer dollars.”

“This change unnecessarily burdens parents. Many will no longer be allowed to take their children to childcare, and at the same time the government has restricted them from finding new arrangements for their children.”
