Victoria Tourism Industry Council welcomes Janet Whiting a new Chair of Visit Victoria

The Victoria Tourism Industry Council (VTIC) congratulates Janet Whiting as the incoming Chair of Visit Victoria, succeeding Paul Little, who will become Chair of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation.

Victoria Tourism Industry Council Chief Executive Felicia Mariani welcomed Ms Whiting to the position and said she brought a wealth of experience to the role.

“Ms Whiting has had a long association with tourism in Victoria, as a member of the Visit Victoria board, with the Victorian Major Events Company, Tourism Australia and Victorian Arts Centre Trust,” she said.

“Tourism is a key contributor to Victoria’s economy, directly and indirectly employing over 232,000 people, including 85,000 in regional Victoria. Visit Victoria guides and champions our tourism industry and we are pleased that a person of Ms Whiting’s professional calibre and experience will be leading our sector.”

Ms Mariani also commended Mr Little on his contribution as Chair of Visit Victoria and acknowledged the continued growth of the sector during his tenure.

The Victoria Tourism Industry Council last week made a number of recommendations to the State Government’s Regional Tourism Review to ensure Victoria’s vital regional visitor economy continues to grow into the next decade and beyond.

VTIC’s recommendations were informed by feedback from over 200 industry members representing the diversity of the Victorian visitor economy. The recommendations contained within our submission provide a comprehensive and cohesive industry position on the actions needed to keep regional tourism competitive and grow regional jobs.
