77 Victorian Government information and communication technology (ICT) projects worth almost $1.2 billion are behind schedule or over budget, long-overdue data released by the Allan Government has revealed.
Long-overdue data uploaded toVictoria’s ICT Dashboard has confirmed that as of Q3 2022-23:
- A total of 18 projects worth more than $200 million are classified Red Status, meaning serious issues have been identified.
- A total of 59 projects worth just under $1 billion are classified Amber Status, meaning issues exist with the delivery of the project.
Amongst these troubled projects is a new software program to support the implementation of Labor’s new Windfall Gains Tax, which has suffered a $3.71 million cost blowout and won’t be completed until mid-2024 – a staggering 12 months after the tax comes into effect.
The total cost of this software project is set to be at least $17.81 million, almost half of the total revenue expected to be raised by the property tax across 2023-24.
Shadow Minister for Finance, Jess Wilson, said: “This long-overdue update demonstrates once again that Labor simply cannot manage money.
“Under Labor, millions of dollars continue to be wasted on botched IT projects across health, education, infrastructure, justice and community safety as outcomes in these areas continue to decline.
“The mismanagement of the Windfall Gains Tax software raises serious concerns about Labor’s ability to administer this tax in a timely, efficient and transparent manner.
“Spending almost half of the new tax’s expected revenue on a software program to simply administer it is a wasteful use of taxpayer money and highlights the financial incompetence of the Allan Government.”
