A Melbourne man has pleaded guilty in the Werribee Magistrates’ Court to posing as a registered builder and fined $15,000.
Todd Buzza, who has several prior convictions for dishonesty, entered into a major domestic building contract by providing a quote to complete substantial renovations, without being a registered builder.
The Victorian Building Authority (VBA) successfully prosecuted this case, which led to a conviction and financial penalty.
Consumers are reminded to use a registered builder for most domestic building work worth more than $10,000, including parts and labour.
The VBA has an online consumer resource portal with information for anyone who experiences issues with builders or plumbers.
Victorians can visit vba.vic.gov.au/check to make sure their builder or plumber is registered or licensed.
