Victorian Treasurer backs Canberra over Victorian small and family businesses

Liberal Party Victoria

Victorian Treasurer, Jaclyn Symes, has refused to oppose the Albanese Labor Government’s capital gains tax changes which threaten to devastate small businesses across Victoria.

When pressed in the Legislative Council today, the Treasurer fell back on her usual talking points and praised the Albanese Labor Government.

Labor premiers Chris Minns and Roger Cook have publicly criticised the federal cash grab and its impact on businesses and the communities they support.

Shamefully, Victoria’s Treasurer could not bring herself to do the same.

Shadow Minister for Small Business, Bev McArthur, said: “Small business employs nearly half of all private sector workers and generates hundreds of billions of dollars for our economy.

“Despite everything small businesses contribute to Victoria, the Treasurer had no modelling, no position and no answers.

“While the Labor Premiers of New South Wales and Western Australia have stood up for their states, Jaclyn Symes and Jacinta Allan have chosen to stand with their Labor mates in Canberra.

“Victorian Labor is addicted to higher taxes and continues to put party interests ahead of small and family businesses and the communities that rely on them.”
