VIETNAM VETERANS DAY 18 AUGUST 2022 – Marking 50th Anniversary of Australia’s Final Withdrawal from Vietnam

Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia

The Victorian Branch of the Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia will conduct its 2022 Vietnam Veterans Day commemorations at the Melbourne Shrine of Remembrance on Thursday 18 August commencing at 11.00 a.m. A “gunfire breakfast” on the Shrine lawns will precede the commemorations.

The commemorations will mark the 50th anniversary of the withdrawal of the last of Australia’s combat elements from Vietnam, and the 56th anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan.

The commemorations will be attended by the Governor of Victoria, the Victorian Premier, and Consuls General from Australia’s allies during the Vietnam War.

The program will include a tribute to Australia’s and New Zealand’s Vietnam War fallen and feature Vietnam-era music by entertainers Normie Rowe, John Schumann, Mike Brady, Denise Drysdale, and Marcie Jones.

The 2022 Vietnam Veterans Day commemorations will be the last in the current format due to the advanced age of the veterans.
