Volunteer groups supported through COVID-19 and beyond

Volunteer groups are being called to register for a new project launching this week which will support them through the changing environment of COVID-19 and beyond.

The launch of the Volunteering Mitchell Enhance Project coincides with National Volunteer Week from 18 to 24 May, which highlights the positive impact volunteers have on the community.

Many local organisations have changed the way they must operate in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Volunteer groups are no different and the project will continue to support these groups as they evolve beyond the pandemic.

Nearly 20 per cent of people in Mitchell Shire volunteer their time to sporting clubs, community groups, welfare groups and emergency and health services.

The introduction of the project helps to support volunteer groups in three key areas:

  • Mentoring to help groups achieve National Standards for Volunteer Inclusion compliance by guiding them to identify and overcome any gaps.
  • Training delivered by external facilitators tackling a variety of topics from managing different personalities to legal obligations.
  • Improving access to technology including financial assistance for smaller groups to purchase the equipment they need to access online resources

The Volunteering Mitchell Enhance Project is supported by the Victorian Government and is being delivered by Mitchell Shire Council
