Vote on Strategic Partnership Grant for Basketball Ballarat

Ballarat City Council will vote on a $106,000 per annum, three year Strategic Partnership Grant with Basketball Ballarat at its December 11 meeting.

Council will also consider an annual, three year $20,000 Strategic Events Grant Partnership.

Council has already funded one three-year Strategic Partnership between the two organisations, which resulted in several significant national events being attracted to Ballarat and Basketball Ballarat being awarded Ballarat Sports Events Centre managers.

This included basketball tournaments delivering 23,500 beds nights each year with an economic benefit of $3.5 million annually, including National Basketball League camps, national women’s basketball camps and national under age club championships.

Basketball Ballarat has supported Council over the years by providing community activities such as the Ballarat Healthy Living Program, Sudanese leadership program, DOTS program for disengaged youth, school mentoring programs and Active Women’s Week.

It has also supported sport and recreation development through the Ballarat Sports Events Centre and broader sporting precinct planning.

Basketball Ballarat is identified as a major promoter of visitors to Ballarat, with an extensive boost to the city’s sports tourism through events such as the State Under-18 and National Under-14 Championships.
