The consultation period for the WA Motorsport Strategy has been extended following strong interest from peak bodies and other stakeholders towards guiding the industry’s future.
The State Government has been developing the strategy in consultation with industry during 2018 and will participate in further discussions before its release in early 2019.
The strategy will identify the infrastructure needs of track-based motorsport activities across Western Australia, develop a hierarchy of motorsport facilities, and plan for future investment and opportunities to increase participation.
It considers Wanneroo (Barbagallo) Raceway, Collie Motorplex, Perth Motorplex, Kalgoorlie-Boulder, a proposed facility in Albany and a potential new private facility in Keysbrook, among other areas.
The strategy will also examine a legislative approach to the licensing and sanctioning of track-based motorsport venues.
As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray:
“The level of interest from industry and other stakeholders to help guide the future of track-based motorsport in WA has been terrific.
“We have extended the consultation period to make sure we do justice to the volume of interest and range of views expressed by the industry, fans and participants themselves.
“The final strategy will provide a roadmap for track-based motorsport to work towards developing its infrastructure, facilities, participation levels, international engagement, and investment opportunities for the future.”
