Wagga Wagga businesses to go ultra-fast

Thousands of local businesses in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales are set to get access to ultra-fast broadband at no upfront cost, with NBN Co selecting the region as one of the 240 Business Fibre Zones across Australia.

Speaking from Wagga Wagga, Minister for Communications, Cyber Safety and the Arts, the Hon Paul Fletcher MP, said up to 3,400 local businesses will benefit, helping to boost productivity and innovation in the region.

“Wagga Wagga is a major hub for the Riverina and local health services, businesses and educational institutions are set to benefit from having direct access to ultra-fast broadband as part of NBN Co’s Business Fibre Initiative,” Minister Fletcher said.

“It was great to meet with many locals and the council today to hear how the initiative will support local businesses to innovate and remain competitive, whether it be through the adoption of digital agricultural technologies, or having greater access to the international marketplace.

“Wagga will also be at the forefront of our economic recovery from COVID-19 and help to achieve our goal of becoming a leading digital economy by 2030.”

Businesses within the Zone will be eligible to access Enterprise Ethernet, NBN Co’s fastest wholesale product, which provides prioritised bandwidth, 24/7 dedicated customer support, and symmetrical wholesale speeds of up to 1 Gigabit per second for data intensive applications such as online collaboration and cloud-based tools.

Businesses outside the centre of Wagga Wagga are also set to save, with NBN Co extending the reach of their CBD zone pricing from the centre of Wagga Wagga to Bowman and Estella in the north and Glenfield Park and Forest Hill to the south.

“The fibre zones are part of NBN Co’s investment of $4.5 billion in network upgrades, which will see the creation of up to 9,900 jobs and 2,800 new businesses across regional Australia,” Minister Fletcher said.
