Tennis NSW’s most prestigious annual country tennis event, the NSW Country Championships, is coming to Wagga Wagga from 3 – 10 July, bringing the best tennis players in regional NSW to the city.
Over 400 players have registered for the 2026 NSW Country Championships which features under 18s Boys and Girls Singles, and Men’s and Women’s Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles.
Matches will be played at Jim Elphick Tennis Centre and South Wagga Tennis Club over the eight days.
The tournament dates back to the 1920s and past champions include well known Australian tennis players Tony Roche, Mark Edmondson, Jason Stoltenberg, Evonne Goolagong Cawley, Jan O’Neill (née Lehane), and more recently Nathan Healey and Ashley Fisher.
Vice President Tennis NSW and Chair NSW Tennis Country Brett Bevan said “the NSW Country Championships is one of the most prestigious events on the Tennis NSW calendar, with more than a century of history and a proud legacy of producing some of Australia’s finest players.
“As a key pathway and selection event for regional athletes, the Championships continue to showcase the strength and depth of country tennis while bringing communities together from across New South Wales.
“We’re delighted to bring this iconic event to Wagga Wagga and look forward to celebrating the rich heritage and bright future of country tennis.”

Mayor of the City of Wagga Wagga Councillor Dallas Tout said the city welcomes the tournament.
“Hosting the 2026 NSW Country Championships is an honour for the City of Wagga Wagga and we are looking forward to seeing the state’s best tennis players in action,” Cr Tout said.
“Looking at the list of previous winners of the tournament, it is evident that we have some great talent in regional NSW, and therefore I encourage locals to come and watch some of the matches.
“Wagga Wagga has a vibrant sporting culture, often hosting events of this calibre which brings opportunities for the local accommodation and hospitality providers to benefit from the extra visitors to town.”
The 2026 NSW Country Championships will be held at the Jim Elphick Tennis Centre, Bolton Park, Wagga Wagga, and South Wagga Tennis Club, Morgan Street, Wagga Wagga from Friday 3 July to Friday 10 July 2026.
Matches will be held from 9am each day and it is free for spectators to attend.
