Walk celebrates local history

The history of post-settlement Albury is now being told along a walk that celebrates the work of our local State MPs over a period of 147 years.

The State Members Walk honours the contribution of 26 Members of Parliament between 1856 and 2003, with the story of each MP told in an etched image and description of their achievements.

The walk, which follows the eastern footpath adjacent to the Hume Highway from Amatex Street to the Harold Mair Bridge, charts the course of European history in Albury and recognises major changes in the city, ranging from the introduction of paddle steamers to the development of new schools and hospitals.

Many of the members’ names are preserved today through the naming of streets and structures across the city.
