It’s full steam ahead on a torrent of water-related news for the town of Delegate, with the brand new Delegate Water Treatment Plant scheduled to open March 2024.
Snowy Monaro Regional Council is helping Delegate residents and businesses get in the ‘h2know’ about all the exciting changes flowing on from this development, with an education campaign setting sail at this weekend’s Delegate Show.
Delegate’s potable, drinkable, water supply is estimated to commence in March 2024, at which time charges for water usage in Delegate will begin.
“Properties in Delegate connected to town water are currently not charged for their water use,” said Jeff Morgan, Chief Operating Officer who oversees water wastewater operations as part of his portfolio with Snowy Monaro Regional Council.
“With the town water unsafe for drinking, this has been as fair an arrangement as possible for the townspeople while Council secured the funding to bring Delegate’s water supply back up to an acceptable standard.”
Council’s education campaign will focus on water use and what charges residents and businesses will incur once the new plant comes online in 2024.
“The last thing we want is for this major positive development for Delegate to be overshadowed by water bill shock and confusion about usage charges,” said Mr Morgan.
The project is fully funded by the NSW Government’s Safe and Secure Water Program, bringing a dedicated water treatment facility to the town for the first time. This program was established in 2017 to co-fund eligible water and sewerage projects in Regional NSW.

Representatives from Council’s water team will be in attendance at this weekend’s Delegate Show to answer community questions about the new treatment plant, and what their water bill will look like.
