“We are open” – Morwell CBD Revitalisation Project Update

The holiday period is officially over and that means the Morwell CBD Revitalisation Project has recommenced in Commercial Road.

Latrobe City Council placed this project on hold over the holiday period to ensure that customers had uninterrupted access to the Morwell CBD traders over the festive season.

A number of road closures are in place to allow for the final works to be completed safely. These closures include eastbound traffic, from Hazelwood Road to Tarwin Street, a detour is in place directing traffic via George Street. It is estimated this section of works will be completed early February, before works will move into Tarwin Street.

In the coming weeks and months, the Revitalisation Project will see the streetscape change through the redevelopment of Commercial Road and Tarwin Street intersections.

“These works are very important to the CBD of Morwell. We have worked closely with the traders within the Morwell CBD and the Future Morwell Steering Committee to ensure the best outcome will be achieved,” Latrobe City Council Mayor Dan Clancey said.

Regarding the short hiatus on the project Cr Clancey added, “Pausing the project was a tough call to make but this ensured that traders in the Morwell CBD could operate during the holiday period unimpeded and customers had plenty of car parking available. “We remind the community that it is business as usual for traders in Commercial Road. Why not grab a coffee, go for a stroll and see what we are doing to revitalise the CBD precinct?”
