Wodonga Council is calling on the community to help breathe life into parts of Baranduda and Leneva by planting trees throughout July and August.
The call comes as council’s Wodonga Retained Environment Network (WREN) reserves conservation team are helping at-risk birds, native animals and plants who depend on us.
Threatened species that rely on the reserves include brush-tailed phascogale or tuan, squirrel glider, lace monitor, regent honeyeater, small-leaved bush pea and tick indigo.
The council’s conservation team is looking for individuals or small teams of volunteers to help with tree planting activities in late July through to August.
Volunteers will prepare the location for tree planting including raking, weeding and preparing soil.
Work will also include planting trees in designated locations, constructing and installing tree guards, and the clean-up of rubbish and equipment after conclusion of the event.
The WREN reserves are located throughout the Baranduda and Leneva area so volunteers will require a willingness to travel to planned sites.
The conservation team are somewhat flexible with the program, so please inform us of your availability and your location and our team can suggest your nearest WREN reserve activity.
Volunteers should wear warm clothing and solid footwear (possibly gumboots) as grass will be wet and can soak through normal shoes.
