We’re on lookout for a Manager to lead Queensland’s first Case Management Unit in Townsville

In a state-wide first, we’re looking for a Manager to establish a specialised unit which will change the way offenders are managed in Queensland, and have life-changing impacts on rehabilitation and crime prevention.

The first Case Management Unit (CMU) will launch at the Townsville Correctional Complex in early 2020, with further units phased in across the state as part of the Queensland Parole System Reform (QPSR) program.

The move will transform how prisoners and offenders are managed, with targeted intervention and supports aimed at maximising their chances of rehabilitation.

This will lead to safer prisons by providing more appropriate support while incarcerated, and reduced recidivism upon release.

Under the program, prisoners will be assigned a case manager, and assessments and planning for release will start soon after their admission to the correctional system.

The CMU will work with teams within the prison and community corrections to start preparations for the prisoner’s release – well before their parole eligibility or release date.

General Manager of the Townsville Correctional Complex Chief Superintendent Peter Hall said the new approach will reduce recidivism by better preparing prisoners for a successful re-entry to the community.

“If the support a person needs while in custody is identified early, it can make a huge difference to their ability to avoid returning to prison,” Chief Superintendent Hall said.

“Just as importantly, by addressing the needs of the prisoners, the program will lead to safer prisons by reducing anti-social or violent behaviour, which means our officers have a safer working environment.”
