Wyndham City is kicking goals on two new Point Cook sport and recreation facilities.
Stage one of the $15.95 million Webster Street Reserve (formerly Bensonhurst Parade Reserve) is now complete, delivering seven tennis courts and one multi-use court, cricket nets and landscaping.
Construction of a senior cricket oval and four soccer pitches is currently underway and on track for completion in early 2023 once the turf is established.
Work on a sporting pavilion and car park will commence in early 2023, with Wyndham City awarding the construction contract at December’s Council meeting.
The Webster Street Reserve sporting pavilion has received $800,000 through the Victorian Government’s Local Sports Infrastructure Fund.
Meanwhile, the $5.6 million Brookdale Road Reserve has also reached a key milestone, with work complete on a new playground, ninja warrior course, exercise area, landscaping and car park.
Construction is now underway on the baseball/softball field, including behind diamond fencing, a batting cage structure and the baseball clay surface.
These works are expected to be complete in early 2023, once the turf has been properly established.
The final piece of the puzzle will be a sporting pavilion, with construction to commence in early 2023 following the award of the construction contract.
Both reserves will also include automated irrigation systems using recycled water, fencing and energy efficient LED sportsground lighting.
Wyndham City Active City portfolio holder Cr Peter Maynard said the two projects would deliver first-class sporting and recreation facilities for Point Cook’s growing population.
“As anyone who lives in Point Cook knows, the booming population in this area means we’re constantly working to provide more sporting facilities for local families,” Cr Maynard said.
“These two Wyndham City projects are among several major active open space investments under construction across our City this year and will provide Point Cook families with the sport and recreational facilities they need.”
“Both reserves will play host to both established and new clubs and organisations, providing fit-for-purpose facilities for training and competition.”
