Wyndham City is delighted to be hosting its second Welcoming City Forum on Monday,15 August at 7pm at the Encore Events Centre in Hoppers Crossing.

The forum will focus on mental health and wellbeing in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities and discuss culturally appropriate services and support. A panel of health and wellbeing practitioners will feature on the night in a facilitated conversation about holistic approaches to looking after ourselves and others.

Cr Jennie Barrera, Wyndham City’s Welcoming City portfolio holder, said: “The Welcoming City forums are an important opportunity for community members and Council to connect. Bringing the community together to share thoughts, stories and ideas and work together to be a Welcoming City.”

“Wyndham is proud of being the most diverse municipality in Australia.”

“Wyndham City believes strongly in making and ensuring Wyndham is a Welcoming City. That’s why Council has a dedicated Welcoming City portfolio to keep this priority at the forefront.”

“We’re also an active member of Welcoming Cities, a growing network of more than 200 municipalities across the world.”

Welcoming Cities is a national network of cities, shires, towns and municipalities who are committed to an Australia where everyone can belong and participate in social, cultural, economic and civic life.

Welcoming Cities network sets the National standard for cultural diversity and inclusion policy and practice in Local Government – helping to create communities where everyone can belong.

“The Welcoming City portfolio aims to celebrate and promote the cultural diversity of our City and create a more welcoming Wyndham that fosters greater economic and social outcomes and opportunities.”

This is the second of three forums in 2022 focused on how to create a more Welcoming Wyndham.

The Welcoming City Forums are part of Councils commitment to building relationships with Wyndham’s Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) community.

The first Welcoming City Forum run by Wyndham City was held online on 16 May this year. Community members had the opportunity to share their feedback, ideas and thoughts on issues they are facing, such as mental health and wellbeing and local employment opportunities. Community members also expressed they would like cultural diversity to be celebrated in our community regularly.

The forums cover a range of information from Council, state and federal governments, presentations from CALD leaders about projects and initiatives, and open forum conversations where everyone had the opportunity to provide feedback and input.
