Perth Film Studios will open its doors this September for a two-day celebration of Western Australia’s screen industry, inviting families, students, and the film curious to step inside the State’s world-class production facility.
The free open days will take place on 11 and 12 September 2026 and offers a rare behind-the-scenes look at the creativity, technology, and talent at the heart of WA’s growing screen sector.
The events are designed to open the doors of the screen industry to the wider community, celebrating Western Australian storytelling, creativity, innovation, and inspire the next generation of screen cast and crew.
The first day will focus on secondary students who want a career in screen and will offer insights into the wide range of education pathways and career opportunities.
Attendees will hear from industry professionals, meet filmmakers, and explore the many roles involved in bringing productions to life – from runner to rigger, programmer to post-production, line producer to location manager, and gaffer to games animator.
The second day will be a family-friendly open day that will transform Perth Film Studios into an immersive experience with entertainment, activities, demonstrations, and hands-on workshops suitable for all ages.
The program will feature special appearances from popular Australian screen productions, includingOutback Truckers and Whale Shark Jack.
The Whale by Spare Parts Puppet Theatre will have an interactive puppet whale on show and Freestyle Now will perform BMX Bandits-themed stunt show.
Visitors can explore the Behind-the-Scenes Zone, experience a working studio environment and each stage of the live production process in the making of a music video.
There will be a program of speakers and industry panel talks – including keynote guest Ben Elton on Saturday. Ben will participate in a special in-conversation session exploring his acclaimed career as a writer and producer across television, radio, film, and theatre.
Visitors will discover how stories are brought to life on screen and experience the excitement of a working studio environment.
