The Department of Communities is seeking the views of Western Australians on its 2022-2027 Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP).
The DAIP aims to promote the access and inclusion of people with disability via the Department’s consultation processes, employment, services and events, buildings and facilities, quality of service, information and complaints.
To develop the DAIP to its current stage, consultation was conducted with the community, as well as with Department employees.
All State Government agencies have DAIPs and this final round of feedback from Western Australians will help the Department finalise its plan.
The Department of Communities is particularly keen to hear from people with lived experience, including people with disability, or family members, carers or guardians of people with disability, and advocacy or representative groups.
The DAIP 2022-2027 is strongly aligned to the principles of A Western Australia for Everyone: State Disability Strategy 2020-2030, that aims to work towards a fully inclusive and accessible community.
This five-year DAIP will guide the Department towards improving practices and policies focused on people with disability. The information gained during the internal and external consultations will inform the actions, outcome measures and implementation of the DAIP.

Feedback can be provided here and is welcomed on any part of the DAIP, or on the DAIP overall. Consultation closes at 11pm on Sunday May 8, 2022.
As stated by Disability Services Minister Don Punch:
“One in six Australians have disability and 411,500 Western Australians have disability – so it is essential we continue to build an inclusive and accessible community.
“This five-year Disability Access and Inclusion Plan will guide the Department of Communities in improving practices and policies focused on people with disability.
“It will help the Department of Communities to outline the actions, timeframes and responsibilities in place to be able to achieve its DAIP goals.
“Feedback about the strategies that have been included in the draft DAIP is invaluable and I strongly encourage people to take part in the consultation process.”
