Win For Local Sport At Alfredton Recreation Reserve

Upgrades at the Alfredton Recreation Reserve pavilion have transformed the facility, ensuring it can continue to support local sporting clubs and the wider Alfredton community.

A $730,000 investment by the City of Ballarat has revitalised the existing pavilion, delivering a larger indoor social area, a new storage facility, and a sheltered viewing area that overlooks the oval.

The project forms part of the City of Ballarat’s Recreation Infrastructure Plan, which identified the need to upgrade the pavilion to meet growing community demand.

City of Ballarat Alfredton Ward Councillor, Damon Saunders, officially marked the completion of the Alfredton Sports and Community Club extension on Friday alongside members of the Ballarat Football Netball Club.

“The Alfredton Recreation Reserve supports people of all ages to stay active and socially connected through organised and casual sport,” Cr Saunders said.

“These upgrades encourage opportunities for the community to come together whether they’re playing, spectating or supporting their loved ones.

“Importantly, this investment ensures the reserve can continue to meet the needs of our growing Ballarat West population both now and into the future.”

Ballarat Football Netball Club President, Craig Lightfoot highlighted the many benefits for players, volunteers, supporters and the wider community.

“It’s been well over 20 years since the Ballarat Football Club first built the social rooms at the Alfredton Recreation Reserve,” he said.

“In that time, it served not just our football, netball, bowls and cricket clubs, but countless local events and community gatherings. A true shared space for many.

“With the rapid growth of netball, female football and our junior boys’ programs, it’s fair to say we’d well and truly outgrown the old rooms. The time for an upgrade was due.

“The redevelopment will transform what we can offer, not just for our own clubs and members, but for the broader community to enjoy and benefit from for many years to come.”

The City of Ballarat facility is managed by a Board of Management, with representatives from key user groups including the Ballarat Football Netball Club, Ballarat Memorial Sports Bowling Club and Ballarat Redan Cricket Club.

Outside of game day use, the pavilion also serves as a flexible community space, supporting a wide range of events and activities.
