Witness appeal for assault outside Melbourne CBD library

Police are wanting to identify a man following an assault in Melbourne on 20 January.

It is believed a man pushing a second man in a wheelchair, approached the victim and his four friends in the forecourt of the library and engaged them in conversation about 2.30pm.

Investigators were told the man struck the victim to the face with his fist before immediately leaving with the man in the wheelchair.

The victim, a 15-year-old Hampton boy, received facial injuries requiring surgery.

Officers have released an image and CCTV of a man they believe may be able to assist them with their investigation.

The man is described as being Caucasian in appearance, aged in his late 30’s and was wearing a blue shirt with a red logo.

Police would also like to speak with the man in the wheelchair who may have witnessed the assault.

Anyone who recognises the man or witnessed the assault is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or file a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
