Witness appeal for Brunswick East assault

Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault and attempted armed robbery in Brunswick East on Monday 21 October 2019.

Police understand a 23-year-old Coburg man got off a tram at the corner of Victoria and Lygon streets at around 5am when he was approached by three men.

The victim dropped a bottle of beer that he was carrying at the time, at which point one of the men picked it up and proceeded to hit the victim over the head.

The other two men punched and kicked the victim and attempted to steal items from his pockets.

The victim received a minor laceration to the back of his head during the incident however nothing was stolen.

Police have released images of two of the men they would like to speak to in relation to this incident.

All three are described to be of African appearance and around 20 years of age.

The first man is described to be 165cm tall, with short dark hair. He was wearing a black Kathmandu jacket, black tracksuit pants with white writing down left leg, and dark runners.

The second man had dreadlocks and was wearing a blue bandana, dark hoodie, dark pants and shoes.

The third man is described to be 180cm tall, with short hair and shaved sides. He was wearing a grey hoodie underneath a green and black Kathmandu jacket, black/grey Adidas tracksuit pants with white stripes half way down the leg and black shoes with a white sole.
