Woman dies after being hit by a van-Fairfield Heights, NSW

A woman has died after being hit by a vehicle in Sydney’s west overnight.

Just after 6pm last night (Thursday 6 August 2020), emergency services were called to Station Street, Fairfield Heights, after a pedestrian was hit by a van.

The 77-year-old woman was crossing the road with the aid of a walker when she was struck by a Toyota Hiace van.

Officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command attended and found a woman seriously injured.

Police commenced CPR until the arrival of NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, she died at the scene.

The driver, a 44-year-old man, was not injured. He was arrested and taken to Fairfield Hospital for mandatory testing.

The man was then taken to Fairfield Police Station by officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit.

He was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasioning death; his licence was suspended on the spot.

The driver was refused bail to appear at Fairfield Local Court on Friday 7 August 2020.

Investigations are continuing.
