A woman has died in hospital after she was found injured on the road in Cardigan in the early hours of this morning.
Police attended the Remembrance Drive scene following reports a passerby had located the woman critically injured about 2.10am.
The 42-year-old woman from the local area was airlifted to hospital where she later died.
At this early-stage police believe the woman may have been lying on the road and been struck by a truck and or vehicle and may not be aware.
Officers at the scene have located debris consistent with a truck possibly involved.
Ballarat police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and are appealing for motorists who drove through the area in the early hours of the morning to come forward.
Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
