Woman seriously assaulted in road rage incident at Balwyn North

Boroondara police are appealing for public assistance after a woman received serious facial injuries following an assault in Balwyn North on Wednesday night.

Investigators have been told the 25-year-old victim was driving east in Oravel Street about 6.30pm when a black VW Golf hatch overtook her at speed.

The victim sounded her horn before the VW driver began to abruptly brake in front of her numerous times.

The victim pulled over in Arama Street where the driver of the VW approached her seated in her white Honda Civic and began to verbally abuse her.

The victim was using crutches, waited for the offender to return to his car before she got out of her vehicle.

As she did, the offender approached her and punched her to the head causing her to fall to the ground where she struck her head.

He then proceeded to punch her to the head a number of times as she tried to crawl away.

He continued to punch her to the face while verbally threatening her.

The offender was last seen fleeing north along Arama Street, then east onto Wandeen Street in the VW.

Witnesses and the victim’s mother were nearby and called emergency services.

The 25-year-old woman was taken to hospital with facial injuries, including a broken nose.

The offender is perceived to be Southern European in appearance, aged in his early 20s and about 175cm tall.

Investigators have released CCTV of a vehicle leaving the scene in the hope it will assist them with their enquiries.

Detectives are keen to speak to any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage.
