Works to begin replacing tram tracks

Works to replace 1.2km of dilapidated tram track around Lake Wendouree will begin on Monday.

The lake-side, south-bound lane will be closed to traffic from Carlton Street through to the Forrest Street roundabout from Monday 4 April to accommodate the works until 30 April.

Traffic management arrangements will be in place. From the north end, traffic will be diverted into St Aidans Drive.

While the works are carried out, parking will not be available alongside the tram track works on the east side of Wendouree Parade.

Pedestrians and cyclists can use the shared path. The sealed bicycle lane will be closed.

The entrance to the Gardens, Pipers by the Lake, Lake Wendouree playground, Windmill Drive, the public toilets and the pedestrian crossings will remain accessible.

A brief road closure will also take place in April during the construction of the tracks across Wendouree Parade near the Tramway Museum.

The Ballarat Tramways Museum received a $1.2 million grant from the State Government’s Regional Infrastructure Fund that was also matched by $1.2 million from the Federal Government’s Local Road and Community Infrastructure grant, enabling the total project cost of $2.4 million to be achieved.
