The Wyndham Art Prize 2023 brings together creatives from Wyndham and across Melbourne.
Now in its ninth year, more than 550 artworks have been submitted – the highest ever.
Of those, 71 have been shortlisted as finalists for this year’s exhibition including nine local artists.
Wyndham City’s Creative City portfolio holder, Cr Mahfoud said: “This year’s entries saw an increase in sculptural forms including larger scale suspended works, various ceramic techniques and fibre practices.”
“The artworks submitted explored current global themes such as the effects of war on global upheaval and the concerns of social inequity.”
“The exhibition provides the community with a chance to experience both fabulous skill and conceptual thought that underpin contemporary art practices.”
The annual contemporary art prize attracts entries from some of the best artists across Australia and offers a chance for local and emerging artists to exhibit alongside them.

All shortlisted entries are included in the Wyndham Art Prize exhibition which runs at Wyndham Art Gallery from Wednesday 16 August to Sunday 22 October.
This year’s Wyndham Art Prize judges include Jason Smith, Director and CEO of Geelong Gallery, Nicole Durling, Executive Director at Craft Victoria and Gail Harradine, Curatorial Manager at Koorie Heritage Trust.
The cash prizes for 2023 are the coveted Wyndham Art Prize of $15,000 (non-acquisitive), the Local Emerging Art Prize of $5,000 (acquisitive) and the People’s Choice Award $2,500.
The 2023 gala opening event will be held on Thursday 16 August, 6.30 to 8.30pm, at Wyndham Cultural Centre. All entrants, art-lovers and community members are welcome to the free event.
The exhibition will be on display from Wednesday 16 August until Sunday 22 October 2023.
Entry to the Gallery is free and opening hours are Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm, and 11am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday. The gallery is closed on public holidays.
