Year 11 and 12 Student End-of-Year Assessments

Sarah Courtney,Minister for Education

I would like to wish the thousands of Tasmanian senior secondary students set to commence their Years 11 and 12 written exams from tomorrow the best of luck.

The end of year exams are a key milestone in many young people’s schooling, leading to future study, training and work of their choice and progressing towards achieving their career ambitions and goals.

This can be a very exciting and anxious time for our students, and I encourage them all to do their best and know that their teachers, families and communities are supporting them on their journey.

From tomorrow, written exams for 42 Level 3 and 4 courses will commence starting with Chemistry, Media Production and Studies of Religion, and finishing on Thursday 18 November with English as an Additional Language or Dialect, German and Sociology.

More than 6,300 Tasmanian senior secondary students have received a Notice of Enrolment to undertake external assessment during Term 4, with oral, practical, performance, and project assessments as well as the written exams.

Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of students continues to be a priority, with COVID-19 safe practices in place for all assessments in line with the current Public Health advice.

This year’s exams are expected to be held with the same practices as last year, and if anything changes students and schools will be advised what they need to do straight away.

During the recent 3-day lockdown, southern Tasmanian Year 11 and 12 students were supported to learn at home and affected students who had folios due the subsequent week received an extension.

Performance assessments for Theatre Performance and Drama in the south were also rescheduled and subsequently held using COVID-19 safe practices.
