You can’t trust Labor with money

Jane Howlett, Liberal Member for Prosser

Everyone knows it – you just can’t trust Labor with the money.

And now Opposition Leader Rebecca White has confirmed it again.

Liberal Member for Prosser, Jane Howlett said:

“First, Dr Broad told Tasmanians that some of Labor’s thought bubbles would magically “pay for themselves” – which nobody believed,” Ms Howlett said.

“Dr Broad was put in the freezer after that howler, and Ms White sent out a desperate SOS and brought former failed Treasurer Michael Aird back to the future, to help out.

“Now today, Ms White claims that she has a “funding strategy” and that every new idea she comes up with will be paid for out of a $30 million magic pudding of “wasteful government expenses” (Examiner 14/7/23) – with absolutely no details about which government workers’ jobs she’d cut or programs she’d slash to find the money.

“Unfortunately, Ms White’s previously committed wages policy idea of linking public service wages to CPI would already have blown the Budget by $2.4 billion.

“The magic pudding has already burst – Labor has absolutely no credibility when it comes to managing our state’s finances.

“Ms White needs to be truthful with Tasmanians and tell them how she will really pay for these thought bubbles.

“After 3,408 days in Opposition, Labor’s wafer-thin pamphlet with absolutely no funding details is no substitute for a properly-costed alternative Budget.

“You just can’t trust Labor with money.”
