Young man dies after being pulled from water in Lorne

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner following the death of a young man in Lorne this evening.

Officers have been told the teenager was one of three young men body surfing in the vicinity of where the Cumberland River meets the ocean, at Cumberland River Beach, when one of the men got into difficulty shortly before 6pm.

The two other males tried to assist before all three of the men found themselves in difficulty.

The trio were able to make their way to shore before they collapsed needing assistance.

An off-duty doctor along with an onlooker and then police and Surf Life Rescue performed CPR and provided first aid to the men before ambulance paramedics arrived.

Sadly, a 19-year-old St Albans young man died at the scene.

The second male, believed to be in a serious condition, has been airlifted to a Melbourne hospital.

The third young man was conveyed to a local hospital for treatment.
