Youth Minister Dave Kelly today announced four youth engagement projects will share in more than $35,000 funding provided through the Youth Engagement Grant Program.
The Youth Engagement Grant Program funds projects that develop the knowledge, confidence and skills young people need to be actively involved in community life and to respond to issues impacting on their lives.
Projects funded also provide opportunities for young people to learn and develop life skills to help them to achieve their goals, and keep young people well and promote lifelong healthy lifestyles.
The projects are:
- The City of Vincent: $10,000 to produce a Youth Action Plan and a Youth Facility Plan that addresses the changing needs of young people across the City of Vincent, while planning for the future;
- The City of Stirling: $10,000 to deliver cultural showcases in high schools throughout the City of Stirling to engage Aboriginal students in Years 10, 11, and 12 who have an interest in learning about and sharing their culture;
- The Lake Grace Community Resource Centre: $6,060 to deliver five school holiday projects with a component of safety, health and wellbeing to provide youth in the district with an opportunity to learn important life skills and build confidence to achieve their goals.
- Thriving Exercise Rehabilitation Inc: $9,500 to deliver mental health first aid courses for young people aged between 10 to 18 so they are better equipped to provide peer support in the event of mental health distress or crisis.

“The initiatives funded through the Youth Engagement Grant Program help young people approach some of the big challenges impacting them.
“The funds assist with activities as varied as youth forums, skills workshops, live music performances and festivals, community arts projects and sporting events.
“In this latest round I’m particularly pleased to see a new initiative to build cultural links for Aboriginal youth and a mental health first aid project receive funding.”
