Preparation is underway for a virtual youth art gallery following the cancellation of Swan Hill’s Youth Arts Festival (YAF) 2020, traditionally held in October.
A Virtual Gallery will be live from Monday, 16 November as part of Victorian Youth Week Celebrations.
Swan Hill Rural City Council’s Youth Support Officer Will Burns said both the Youth Arts Festival and Victorian Youth Week had been cancelled this year and it was pleasing that these events had a new date and format.
“This is an exciting opportunity to reimagine activities for young people.
“More than ever local young people need a platform to showcase their talents and interests,” he said.
Youth Arts Festival Ambassador Luca Devlin said despite the Youth Arts Festival looking different this year, local youth were still looking forward to participating.
“The Youth Arts Festival traditionally provides a platform for young artists to receive recognition and acknowledgment – this year we still aim to do this.
“The virtual gallery will now give us the opportunity to share artwork on an even wider scale,” she said.
Ms Devlin said any young people aged 12-25 years can enter their artwork, but they must be living in the municipality.
“All forms of artwork are welcome, whether it is hair and beauty, paintings, drawings or fashion.
To enter artwork into the virtual gallery visit the Youth Inc website at https://youth.swanhill.vic.gov.au/ or direct message the Swan Hill Youth Arts Festival Instagram page.
Entries must include a name, age, title, and a description of the artwork.
Applications close on Friday, 30 October 2020.
